History Of Our Church

We the Brethren and Sisters of Long Hollow Community met on the 4th Saturday in May 1860 in the George W. Fore house for the purpose of forming a constitution after the United Baptist Faith order. The official aid was from the following churches: Buck Creek - Moses Keeney, Marian Hargis; New Hope – Jacob Meece; Bethany – Milton Sewell. After due consideration we thought it necessary to constitute them into a church. The first deacons were Jacob Miller and Squire Bray. John Bray was the first clerk. Elder E. Meece also helped in the services.

Elder Eliphalet L. Smiley, born in 1815 in VA and married to Eleanor Holmes on May 21, 1835 in Pulaski County, KY, was elected as the first pastor. Elder E. Meece was appointed moderator for the day and L. Richardson was clerk for the day. The Church was called PINE GROVE. Some of the charter members and early families were Brays, Slaveys, Cooks, Millers, Brinsons, Glovers, Alcorns, Fores, Smileys, Phelps, Warrens, Tomlinsons, Alexanders, Fulchers, Hargis, Gregorys, Sears, Goodins, Hunts, Dykes, Childers, Barbers, and Earps .
