A Short History

In 1839, Fishing Creek Baptist Church had a revival that lasted about 2 years as a result of this Rev. Jonas Wilson and 21 or 22 members were dismissed to form a church at Bethlehem Meeting House. First  pastor - Jonas Wilson. Some of the charter members were: Mr. & Mrs. Archibald Dick, Mr. Jonas Wilson, Mr. & Mrs. Zechariah Loveless, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Porter, Mr. & Mrs. Solomon Newell, Mr. & Mrs. Alexander Dick, Mr. & Mrs. Bird Wilson, Mr. & Mrs. Whitley Dick, Godbeys, Shadoans, Nelsons, Lynns and Mr. & Mrs. Jonas Durmond Wilson.

Bethlehem Baptist Church organized in 1839, out of Fishing Creek Baptsit Church.

Fishing Creek Organized 1803 out of Sinking Creek Baptist Church, known now as the First Baptist Church of Somerset.

Sinking Creek organized in 1799, out of Flat Lick Baptist Church.

Flat Lick Organized January 26, 1799, out of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, now called First Baptist Church of Crab Orchard.

Cedar Creek Organized 1791, out of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church previously known as Upper Spottsylvania Baptist Church, The Traveling Church.

The Upper Spottsylvania Baptist Church, organized November 20, 1767, out of Abotts Creek Baptist Church. The Upper Spottsylvania Baptist Church of Virginia brought Gilberts Creek near Lancaster, Kentucky under the leadership of Bro. Lewis Craig in 1781.
